Lead (Staff) UX Designer

LOCATIONS: Remote, United States

Yum! Brands is seeking a self-starter and dynamic Lead UX Designer with a passion for designing engaging experiences with a strong sense of problem solving in a complex product platform. Someone who can deliver leading-edge experiences that challenge current conventions and isn’t afraid to speak up for the end user. The ideal candidate has a successful track record working in a fast-paced environment with an exceptionally creative vision, and influential skills.

In this role, you'll lead the experience strategy for a complex product platform, driving quality across the customer experience, that supports our brand partners. You will do this by collaborating with other UX designers, engineers, product, and at times our partners across the company. The focus will begin with improving the existing platform from ground up, making it easy for our brand partners to find the information they need, make changes, and easily create and define new products, that carry down to the individual store level.

In your role as Lead UX Designer:

  • Report to our Sr. Manager of UX Design
  • Be able to apply creative problem solving and strategic thinking to complex design problems.
  • Produce high-quality design deliverables to communicate design solutions and facilitate discussions.
  • Define interactions, and visual specifications for developer handoff.
  • Design and lead User testing, and usability research to deliver insights and actionable results.
  • Must be a strong communicator, effectively presenting designs, UX rationale, trade-offs and be receptive to feedback from to a broad team of Designers, Engineers, and Product Managers.
  • You understand technical limitations, where to take liberties and how to communicate with senior leaders, product managers, and engineers.
  • Work closely with product owners and engineer leads in development of features, gathering feedback, and iterate quickly.
  • Perform at a high level in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and be open to change.
  • Be thorough, detail-oriented, and highly organized, plus ability to multi-task.
  • Provide and receive mentorship from other UX members on the team.
  • Are proactive and eager to take on new challenges of sometimes ambiguous work, and are ready to adapt quickly, and a drive for business results.

Your Experience Should Include:

  • 7+ years professional experience as a key, hands-on user experience designer of a UX/UI team through the product development cycle of successfully launched web, mobile, and/or software applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in a Design discipline (UX Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Product / Industrial Design)
  • Be a well-rounded UX professional with a broad skill set, and extra strength in UX strategy and complex systems thinking.
  • Ability to find clarity and simplicity in complex problems and crystalize them into actionable items.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and mentorship skills – teammates actively seek your advice and feedback.
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical skills, abstract reasoning, and idea orientation with a bias towards leading progressive action.
  • Strong understanding and evangelism of research and data-driven design methodologies.
  • Experience designing for responsive web and android applications, understanding of how to design within the best practices for each platform.
  • Confident communicating through a variety of UX artifacts such as: conceptual models, site maps, user flows, wireframes, and prototypes.
  • Experience driving a Lean and Agile user experience from start-to-finish that delivers results.
  • Ability to provide level of effort intakes for new product features.
  • Ability to quickly prototype your ideas, bringing interactions to life
  • Proven ability to present to all levels with strong storytelling skills.
  • Mastery of creative and prototyping, fluent in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, iOS/Android native app patterns, and responsive/HTML/CSS design.
  • Familiarity with establishing, maintaining, and utilizing patterns within a design system.
  • Self-disciplined, Get Stuff Done approach to work with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Understanding of accessibility and the ability to apply that to designs.
  • Have a strong portfolio of work that demonstrates skills in user experience and interaction design showcasing your design process and thinking.

You might also have:

  • Experience in Service Design.
  • BA or MA in interaction design, communication design, industrial design, HCI, or equivalent.
  • Experience with UX writing, micro-copy and why content is important.
  • Experience working with complex information architecture and navigation challenges.
  • Ability to plan, scope and deliver work that contributes to a larger, long-term plan.
